The Frenchman famous for climbing some of the world’s tallest buildings without ropes or equipment has been arrested in Sydney.
Alain “Spiderman” Robert was arrested last Monday after scaling the 57-story Lumiere apartment block with his bare hands.
Dozens of people watched as Robert, who has been arrested more than 80 times, scaled the 150m building in about 25 minutes.
The climber has since pleaded not guilty, at Sydney District Court, to putting other peoples’ lives at risk. The court hearing has been adjourned until October 15.
If convicted of both the charges against him, of risking the safety of another by climbing a building or structure and of unlawful entry of an enclosed area, he could be jailed for up to three months and fined up to $1,500.
Spiderman’s agent Max Markson said: “I’m sad he’s been arrested, but hopefully he’ll get out soon and we can have some champagne.”
The 48-year-old has climbed more than 70 skyscrapers all across the world, including New York’s Empire State Building and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
