The Irish backpacker who drowned in Kakadu National Park has been named as Northern Irish man Tony Norney.
The 27-year-old, who had been on a tour from Darwin with about 20 other travellers, was originally from the Poleglass area of west Belfast.
He drowned while swimming at the Northern Territory park’s Malanbanjbanjdju Billabong on Saturday night.
The Northern Territory Police have said the Belfast man had chosen to ignore signs that warned against swimming in the area. They said it appeared that he was not a strong swimmer and had got into difficulties.
Investigators had earlier ruled out the possibility of a crocodile attack.
