A second man has been charged with the brutal attack that left Irish backpacker David Keohane in a coma for seven months.
Kane Desmond Tupuolamoui, 21, was formally charged at Waverley Local Court, after being extradited from Darwin.
Detectives have revealed his 6am arrest in the Northern Territory, following a two-month Australia-wide search, was the result of a tip-off.
Mr Keohane, then aged 29, a flooring tradesman and Lifeline counsellor, had been living in Australia for four years. He was attacked in the Sydney beach suburb of Coogee while walking home with a pizza on August 9, 2008.
The County Cork man received 14 blows to the head, causing him to remain unconscious for 218 days. He was taken home by his family last September but is now confined to a wheelchair and has permanent brain damage.
Mr Tupuolamoui’s case has been adjourned until September 2.
