An Australian tourist is recovering in a New Zealand hospital after being involved in the type of bungy jump accident that every traveller dreads.
Kirsty Moulder, 39, decided to test her nerve with the 35 metre high jump over the Waiau River near Hanmer Springs, on New Zealand’s South Island.
However, disaster struck when she was bouncing up for the second time. She somehow slipped out of the bungy cord and fell into the river from about six metres. It’s thought she may have hit a rock under the water.
Ms Moulder, from the Blue Mountains, sustained chest and arm injuries and had to be lifted to Christchurch Hospital, where she spent the night in surgery.
Thrillseekers, the company which took over the 20-year-old bungy operation last year, has closed the jump until further notice.
