One dedicated British fan of Neighbours is to play a backpacker visiting Ramsay Street to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.
After what is expected to be a fiercely-fought contest, the winning actress will be flown Down Under to play the role of Poppy Rogers, who became friends with Mal Kennedy while he backpacked around Europe, for four weeks in July.
Poppy’s character profile describes her as a free-spirited young woman, who decided to start travelling after watching her brother Bodhi recover from serious illness.
The competition, being run by Neighbours’ UK broadcaster Five, will involve producers picking their favourite five entrants. Those finalists will then face a public vote, from which the top two will travel to Melbourne for a final test.
Five controller Richard Woolfe told the BBC: “Neighbours has launched the careers of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce so this really is a life-changing opportunity.”
Auditions must be uploaded to www.youtube.com/beastar by Friday 28 May.
