He has spent the last six months with the so-called Best Job in the World, but Briton Ben Southall is now moving from one dream role to another.
The former charity worker, who beat 34,000 applicants to win the position of island caretaker for the Whitsundays, has somehow managed to find an ever better job – getting paid a six-figure salary (plus expenses) to jet around the world promoting Queensland.
Based in Brisbane, Southall will spend 18 months travelling between Tourism Queensland’s 14 international offices, spread across America, Europe, Asia and New Zealand, trying to encourage people to head Down Under.
His six month stint as island caretaker, for which he was paid $150,000, has already been deemed a massive success.
In that time he visited more than 90 destinations and posted blogs comprising 75,000 words, 2,000 photos and 47 video diaries.
The resulting publicity, such as an upcoming six-part National Geographic documentary series, has been calculated at being worth over $400m.
