German backpacker Jan-Christian Bielenberg
Police are investigating whether a body washed up on a Western Australian beach is that of missing German backpacker Jan-Christian Bielenberg.
The dead body, described as unidentifiable at this stage, was found at about 8:30am this morning by two women riding horses at Capel Beach, 30km from where Jan-Christian was last seen in Bunbury.
Police, however, have confirmed it is the body of a young man and that it had clearly been in the water for some time.
It is two weeks since the traveller was filmed on CCTV after getting locked out of his hostel room.
The 20-year-old’s parents, who flew to Australia last week to make a plea for information, had been due to fly home tomorrow.
The National Missing Persons Unit had taken charge of the case earlier this week, after a major search operation was called off.
