Jan-Christian Bielenberg
The family of missing German backpacker Jan-Christian Bielenberg is expected to arrive in Western Australia today to help police with the search.
Mr Bielenberg has not been seen since a week ago, on Thursday 30 July.
Police, who have not ruled out foul play, have since been searching WA’s south-west coastline using helicopters and quad bikes.
The 20-year-old disappeared from the Dolphin Retreat Backpackers in Bunbury, about 180km south of Perth, after locking himself out of his room at 2.20am.
Security camera footage shows the backpacker trying to open the door to his room before sending a text on his mobile phone and leaving the hostel at 3.43am.
The backpacker’s parents are expected to make a plea for information at a press conference in Bunbury tomorrow.
An appeal has also been put out to WWOOFers, volunteers who are part of the Willing Workers On Organic Farms programme, as the German is believed to be a member.
Police ask anyone who may have seen him or knows where he is to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
At the time Mr Bielenberg went missing he was wearing a brown hooded jumper, a dark brown peak cap, black boxer shorts and black socks.
He is described as being 190cm tall, of medium/muscular build, with light brown short hair and brown eyes. Police have not said what part of Germany he is from.
