Jamie Neale
Missing British backpacker Jamie Neale has been found near Katoomba ending a twelve-day widespread search.
Neale was found by two bushwalkers near the Narrow Neck fire trail near Katoomba at 11.30 this morning who then alerted emergency services after confirming his identity.
Neale was taken to Katoomba Hospital for treatment for dehydration and exposure.
Neale’s father, Richard Cass was flown to the hospital in a police aircraft to be reunited with his son.
Cass had flown to Australia to join the search for Neale and was due to return to England this afternoon.
The 19-year-old backpacker checked into a Katoomba hostel on July 1 and was last seen on July 3 in the Jamison Valley.
An extensive search was carried out in the days following his disappearance by NSW Police, Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Volunteer Rescue Association and National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Mr Neale’s father had faith in his son’s survival skills.
“He’s very tolerant of cold and, if anybody can survive this, he will,” he said late last week.
