Jamie Neale in Sydney recently
British backpacker Jamie Neale, who has been missing in the Blue Mountains for 11 days, asked a couple to take photos of him before he disappeared.
The photograph taken by a Sydney couple is a vital clue as to the whereabouts of 19-year-old Mr Neale who set off from a Katoomba on July 3 for a bushwalk.
The couple have described Jamie as being “in good spirits and good health” during their 10-minute conversation at the outcrop known as the Ruined Castle before he left, saying he was going to Mt Solitary.
“That is very useful information,” Inspector Carl Clark said. Despite the new information, and a search of dozens of square kilometres of rugged mountain terrain during the past seven days, no trace has been found of Jamie.
Jamie’s father Richard Neale, who has been searching tracks in the area, described his son as a hard-working boy who had never been in trouble.
“He worked through winter and spring as a lab technician to raise cash for his trip and intended to go to Exeter University as soon as he returned,” he said. “He was kind and courteous to everyone.”
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
