Jamie Neale in Sydney recently
The search for 19-year-old Briton Jamie Neale, who has been missing in the Blue Mountains since July 3, has spread to Thailand.
Police are searching for Canadian backpacker Matthew Cayes, who they believe was the last person to speak with Jamie.
It’s thought Mr Cayes may have key information regarding Mr Neale’s plans.
However, Mr Cayes flew to Thailand on Saturday where he is working with the Canadian consulate.
The police have his mobile number and his email address and are trying to contact him.
Police and emergency services are continuing the land based search for Jamie today.
He was last seen leaving his Katoomba hostel on Friday at 9.30am, wearing a black jersey with white sleeves, white T-shirt, blue jeans and black joggers. He was carrying a burgundy day-pack. Jamie is described as having a pale complexion, short dark hair, brown eyes and a beard.
Meanwhile Acting Superintendent Michael Bostock, Blue Mountains Commander said this was a timely moment to remind bushwalkers that personal locator beacons were available from Springwood and Katoomba Police Stations as well as National Parks officers free of charge.
“I encourage anyone who is intending on going bushwalking in the area to register their details with police or National Parks offices.
“Bushwalkers should notify their friends and family of their route and estimated trip times before going on trips while also organising suitable resources and clothing for their journey” said Acting Superintendent Bostock.
Anyone who has information on his whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
