Ben Southall's new office
Englishman Ben Southall, the winner of Tourism Queensland’s Best Job In The World competition, has begun blogging about his new role as he touched down in Brisbane last week.
Blogging on the site will be part of the 34-year-old charity worker’s six-month position as the caretaker of the Whitsunday islands which starts this Wednesday.
So far he has discussed struggling with his 55kg of luggage. He also hinted at the annoyance caused by a recent media backlash he was forced to battle.
On the blog he wrote that organisers had done “a great job of keeping my arrival out of the public domain and it was a welcome relief to not have journo’s there for once thrusting their mikes in my face”.
Earlier this month, Ben found himself labelled a “whingeing Pom” after much of the Aussie media enthusiastically picked up on an interview he did with British tabloid The Sun. In the story, Ben was asked what he would miss about home, to which he replied long summer days and Sunday roast dinners. The angle was then twisted to suggest that Ben was already moaning about the best job.
Ben beat 35,000 applicants to land the $150,000 job, which will also see him taking on unenviable tasks such as snorkelling, swimming and getting to know the Hamilton Island locals.
This Blog is informative and can bring encouraging results,
We will surely come back to visit new post sooner or later.
