Tasmanian Wallabies have been getting high
Drugged-up wallabies have been creating crop circles in Tasmanian fields.
Tassie authorities have insisted there is no chance that aliens are behind the bizarre formations, because stoned marsupials are to blame.
Wallabies have apparently been invading the island’s opium fields and getting high by biting the heads off the poppy plants. They then lose their sense of balance and direction, leading them to run around in circles.
The Mercury reported how attorney general Lara Giddings told a budget hearing: “We have a problem with wallabies entering poppy fields, getting as high as a kite and going around in circles. Then they crash.”
Deer and sheep have also been spotted getting high in the past.
Tasmania’s 500 poppy growers provides about half the world’s legal opium supply for medical uses.
