Fraser Island is famous for its dingoes
A huge Fraser Island dingo has been caught and killed after it attacked a tourist, reports Brisbane’s Courier Mail.
The adolescent wild dog, thought to have been hand-fed because of its unusual size, had ripped a tourist’s clothes.
The dingo weighed 20kg – about 4kg more than average – and its size has prompted rangers to step up warnings about the danger of feeding dingoes.
The male dog, thought to be about 12 months old, attacked a tourist on a guided walk at Central Station on Monday and soon after stalked and circled a mother and her three-year-old child.
Since May 2001 61 dingoes had been shot on the World heritage-listed island.
We all tend to forget that we are encroaching on their territory.
