Irish backpacker Sean Walsh has now been missing for over a month.

Despite a high profile appeal for the 26-year-old County Waterford man on Channel Nine, there has been no progress in the search.

Sean, a biomedical engineer, had been due to return home at the end of May, but disappeared from his home in the Sydney suburb of Randwick on Sunday, May 10.

An ongoing police investigation, led by Detective Inspector Paul Pisanos of the Eastern Beaches Local Area Command, remains open.

Sean’s two sisters, Mairead and Brid, flew to Australia to help with the investigation. They have since been in regular contact with the police, as well as Missing Persons Manager Kelly Kort Lepel, as recently as yesterday.

Mystery still surrounds the nature of the Irishman’s disappearance. He failed to turn up at the airport for his flight home, however police believe he had his passport with him.

Detectives have also confirmed his bank accounts have not been accessed since.

Friends of Sean’s in Sydney, where he had been working for a carpet cleaning business, have described how he had seemed distant and unsettled in the days before his disappearance. He had also failed to contact family members, which has been called “out of character”.

Sean, a keen Gaelic footballer, is described as 175cm tall with a thin build, short brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
