Apologies, but just letting you know that we’ve closed the comments thread on this story because deleting racist comments (from all sides) seemed to have become our full-time job.

For the record, we love Australia, that’s why we’re here. If i hated australia so much, i probably wouldnt even bother writing a huge comment on some web-site about how much i hate it. BUT seeing as i think its a great place…im gonna add a lil sumthin sumthin.

1. Australia is expensive but good on em for paying their workers good money.
2. Australia may be easy for backpacking…if you think so, DONT TAKE THE TOUR and go alone and do it cheap. no one is forcing you to pay money…duuuuuuuh
3. Yada yada convicts…Got the Brits to blame for that, shoulda squeezed them all on your own land instead of dragging them across the world.
4. sure australia may be racist…name a place that isnt?
5. yeah the UK sure does rule..the establishers of greed, colonialism, drug trade, slaves…need i go on. And doing it in the name of what..GOD? money? wow (Lets just draw a line through there, half for you, half for us–forget about locals)

GREAT at sport, small country…kicks butt in olympics.
Im proud to be Aussie but plz plz plz
if you dont like it…dont waste your money on our economy and go backpacking in south america or somethin’

All I can say is this convict outpost is suffering badly from a third world way of thinking. It has all the trappings of technology and such provided by the developed world but has the most backward thinking. It just can’t shake that convict past I guess. I know you all are very proud of your nation but you really need to get out more and see how the developed world has evolved and works. You are at least 30 years behind in thinking. Trust me that’s nothing to be proud of. Or having the lowest of the low for a ancestor. Can’t understand why that’s something to boast about. But then again I’m, thankfully, not australian

Hey, very good summary…I laughed a lot when I read it. Racism is quite a sad part about Australia, I think “Racially Aware” is a better word. I mean, I travelled a lot around the world, only in Australia, they keep asking where you came from even if you were born here, then they said “What about your parents”, why do you care?

The 2 things I really hate about Australia are:

1) Freaking expensive place to live, everything is 3 to 5 times more expensive than North America. (Stop bringing up medical insurance..our medical system is a shame..look at the waiting list, so many Australians now travel overseas for treatments).

2) Successful people not getting recognized; if you are a successful woman, they said you sleep with the boss. If you a successful man, they call you a poofter. I don’t understand why this is happening, Aussies say “Because we support underdogs”, so, you support underdogs by calling others gays?

Last year, according to ABS, 81,000 people left Australia permanently which was a record number, of which, approx. 40,000 are “True Aussies”…and 70% of them highly educated…this tells u something.

i just wanted to say that I was born here and I reccon that the racist stuff is kinda true but is partly due to the fact that we had a racist government for a few years

I am a Jewish person from Canada who has lived all over the world and got sort of stuck for the time being in Australia and I can say without a doubt that Australia has to be the most racist nation on earth. I have a university education and I could barely find a job here in fields I am well qualified in. I even had a chap who was interviewing me once tell me that they were looking for someone a little more local. Which is odd considering I have lived in the town for well over three years. Then there are the people who I constantly run into who think it would be funny to tell me a holocaust joke because obviously me being Jewish I need to hear the same sick jokes from multiple people a month. So I would absolutely agree that Australia is a nation worth hating.

All those reasons are not real reasons to hate Australia, they are just bored horny backppacker reasons.
I will tell you why im frustrated with Australia. I am a teen who is born and raised here. I find it kind of strange that there is no teen rebellion/angst amoung us, nothing! I am surrounded by flag worshipping boring robots. To me this is obeying the government, not speaking out, accepting the awful changes happening to this once amazing country. Is it only happening here?
