COMMENT: Lonely Planet travel blog awards guide us to new talent

Lonely Planet have announced their top five nominations for each category in the Travel Blogger Awards.

Categories include Best Destination Blog, Best Expat Blog, Best Micro-Blog (ie. Twitter), Best Image Blog, Best Consumer Travel Blog, Best Video Blog, several non-English language awards, Best Podcast and more.

Some interesting reads in amongst them and plenty of new talent.

We’ve been big fans of Indie Travel and Amateur Traveller – both nominated in the podcast category – and hope they do well.

But a few compelling newbies we’ve discovered while perusing the list are the video blogs of Amtrakker
and if for the biggest pillow fight you’ve ever seen, check dis:

The winners are decided half on public votes and half by the LP judges, which seems fair enough – and perhaps keeps the cyber cheats at bay. Voting close at 12am on Wednesday 20th March (Pacific Time USA), so get clicking.
